I forgot how little sleep you get with a newborn......I NEED sleep. Some people can function with very little sleep, but I am not one of them. For the first 3 weeks or so, Jonah's sleeping habits at night were very, well...bad. He was wanting to eat every 2 hours, and then wouldn't go back to sleep for another 45 minutes, so I was getting about an hour of sleep at a time. He was very colicky and had a lot of tummy aches and gas problems in the beginning. He cried a LOT. One night I was so desperate for something to give me a boost, that I opened a Lunchable and stole the Oreo's out of it! Yep, I stole my kids' cookies. And I have no shame...I was in a bad place and the Oreo's helped! At first, I slept on the couch with him in the bouncy chair or bassinet beside me. I slept with my cell phone beside me so I could have a light to see with and the Jigsaw puzzle game to play, and I slept with my glasses on. I figured, why take them off?! We eventually started sleeping in the bedroom, and I finally figured out that if I put him in bed with me, he would sleep much better...go figure! =0) Aunt Barbara bought us a "SnuggleNest" that he can sleep in, in our bed. That way it is safe, but he's still right there with us. It has a light on it and plays music. He loves it and sleeps as close to my side as possible! (He is a Momma's boy already!) Everything seems so much better when you have had sleep...
This picture was taken after the longest night I have EVER had with a baby...he cried so much that we had to put him in the car and drive to Wal-Mart for gas drops. Of course, once the sun came up, he slept just fine!
Another thing that did help was to swaddle him very tightly. I just had to leave his arms out, because he didn't like them being strapped to his body.
He's waving at me...
He looks so much like his daddy in this picture.
Jonah will sometimes take a pacifier, but we usually have to give it to him when we do his gas drops. He would really like to suck his thumb. One day, he found it all on his own and sucked it for the longest time. I wish he would get the hang of it, so I wouldn't have to search for pacifiers all the time. I love thumb sucking babies!
Thumb sucking video...
This is his favorite place to sleep...
What? You want me to sleep?!
Sleeping soundly...in Mommy & Daddy's bed. At some point, I reached total desperation, and decided to do whatever worked! I love his messy hair.
Wide awake in the middle of the night...
I guess the lights were too bright for him...
This was the night we turned a corner...he slept for nearly 6 hours straight. I think he was about 4 weeks old. I said it was the Mickey Mouse pj's...he was having those sweet Disney dreams again!
