On Monday after the conference was over, we drove a little less than 2 hours to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. Brian was so excited about it, and I was too, but a little apprehensive about how the kids would do. It turned out to be a great experience for everyone. There were lots of dinosaurs, the Garden of Eden, and a section of Noah's Ark to walk through, among many other things. A large portion of the museum involved reading material, and that just wasn't going to happen with three little ones. At the end of the museum, we watched a short film that showed Jesus being nailed to the cross. About halfway through, Mackenzie came over to me and laid her head on my shoulder and just started sobbing. It broke my heart. She just kept crying and saying, "Why did God make the world? and "I don't want to die." I think God is really starting to stir in her heart, and beginning to make himself known to her. She is still so young though, and we don't want to push too hard. We did sit down with her and try to answer some of her questions though. Because she lost her Pa at such a young age, she understands death and she is clearly afraid of dying and afraid of us dying before her. She comments on it far too frequently. As her Momma, it makes me so sad that she worries about it. I wish I could just take that fear from her, but it doesn't work that way. We just try to talk to her about it and explain that because of Jesus, we can have eternal life and don't have to be afraid of dying. Her little mind just has trouble grasping that. What she knows is that Pa left and is never coming back. We are continuing to pray that God will teach her and impress Himself upon her heart in a way that only He can do. She is so tenderhearted and sensitive.
Maybe someday when the kids are older we can visit the Creation Museum again, and they will have a better understanding of all they are seeing. What a wonderful place this was, where the TRUTH is told! I think the thing I walked away with the most was the desire and need to pray for my children...the greatest travesty would be that they not know the Lord. I'm not sure I could bear it.
Thank you, Jesus, for the sacrifice you made for me. For loving me, dying for me, saving me...even though I fall so short. I pray that you would reveal yourself to Mackenzie and help her to understand and accept your gift of salvation, as she is asking questions and seeking truth. I pray also for Madison and Jonah that when the time comes, they would trust in You as well. I pray that I would be an example for them...that when they look at me, they would see You.
Be the Lord of this house,
Make my family Your own,
Come and fill every heart in my home.
The girls especially liked these baby dinosaurs!
I think Jonah, in true boy fashion, was a fan of the dinosaurs too! He even wore his dinosaur shirt for the occasion.
This was an exhibit about evolution, and the crazy idea that we evolved from apes. Mackenzie just thought the little gorilla was so cute!
This was probably my favorite part...a walk through the Garden of Eden. I love it that the girls got to actually visualize what that was like.
The Noah's Ark exhibit was very good too.
More dinosaurs...Daddy and Madison sure are taking good care of their babies!
At the end of our visit to the Museum, we went outside to the petting zoo, but only for about ten minutes. It was SO cold! We pretty much just fed a few goats and hightailed it back to the car...brrrrrr!!!
