Sometimes Learning Is Hard

Mackenzie is doing great in the 2nd grade! I love this note we received from Mrs. Martin at the end of the second quarter. When we met with her for parent/teacher conference, she had nothing but positive things to say about Mackenzie. As we walked out of the conference, Brian was grinning real big and said, "Well, it sounds like Mackenzie is just about perfect!" We laughed! Really, we are so proud of her and thankful that she does so well in school. But, like anyone...she is not perfect and there are days that she struggles. One day recently, she started sobbing as soon as she got home. She pulled out her math paper and told me that she only got 1 problem right on the page. Our little perfectionist was completely distraught. Mackenzie is a lot like me in this way. She is a rule follower, she strives to do things just right, and she seeks the approval of people. All of these are good qualities, but they can lead to occasional meltdowns. The sad face she drew on her paper broke my heart. It was such a good lesson though, for her to realize that sometimes things in life are hard, and it's okay if we don't always get everything just right. We worked on her math problems for a long time and the next day she got almost half of the problems right! Hard work really does pay off!
I am so thankful for the education our children are receiving at Regent! God has been so very good to provide for us to be there.
This was Mackenzie's first quarter report card. So proud of her for getting all 3's! She got all 3's for the second quarter also.
