The day after we got to Port Aransas, Tropical Storm Hermine started coming in. This was quite an eventful morning...Brian decided he wanted to walk to the Jetty, so off we went! Along the way, I kept saying, "Look how dark the sky is!" Ship after ship was coming in off the ocean, and the sky was literally turning black. But did he listen? NO! On we went...far, far away from our trailer! What do you know, a few minutes later...here came the rain. It wasn't just a light rain...it was the kind that hurts because it is coming down so hard. So, what choice did we have but to start walking back! Thankfully, some nice Texas Longhorn fans let us stand under their tarp until it let up a little. What we really needed were some pictures of us after all the rain...but we looked so bad that it was never going to happen! We were drenched by the time we made it back to the trailer! At the time, I didn't think it was all that fun, but after the fact, this is one of my favorite memories of our trip!
When we got back to the trailer and got dry, we all rested and took naps! Madison crawled right up on the bed with Grandma and Grandpa and went to sleep. Mackenzie and Daddy watched Toy Story. It was a cozy afternoon inside the trailer. Then, since it was Labor Day, Tom and Brian grilled hamburgers in the rain for us. Such good guys!

Tropical Storm Hermine hit hard on Monday night. Brian and I went up to do some laundry in the building where we took showers, and we watched it come in while we waited. We had asked around a lot to see if we would be safe where we were camping, and everyone said we would be fine. Thankfully, it came through in the middle of the night, and the girls stayed asleep. I put them both in bed with me, just in case they woke up scared. Mackenzie is very afraid of thunder and lightning, so I was anxious about how she would do. I just kept praying that she would stay asleep, and she did! The worst part was the wind...it blew 50 mph and rocked the trailer pretty good. From about 1:00 a.m. to 5:00, it was pretty bad. I felt all safe and cozy during the storm with my little chicks in bed with me! They were pretty happy about getting to sleep with me too!

We made it through the night! The next morning, Brian and I went walking on the beach, but the wind was blowing so hard that you could hardly stand up! It rained off and on the next few days, but we managed to find enough things to do, and got to spend plenty of time on the beach. One day we went into Corpus Christi and went shopping at the Mall...that was a fun break from the beach for a day.
Grandma Baldwin bought the girls these adorable little rain coats before the trip...who knew a tropical storm was coming and they might actually need them?! They didn't really wear them outside, but it was fun to pretend inside the trailer, where it was nice and dry! The wind would have blown them right over!
