Oops.

Oh sweet Madi! The first thing I want to say to you, as you read this--is that IT'S OKAY! Accidents happen & one day we are really going to laugh about this one! Also, this was not all your fault--we should not have put you in this situation or startled you. And lastly, all that really matters is that no one was hurt! Walls can be fixed and cars can be driven with dents in them! We love you & believe in you--you are going to be a great driver!! (with a little more practice!) =0)

Madi just got her permit, so she asked to drive us home from church. We were all in the car with her, headed home for Jonah's family party. When we pulled in the driveway, Brian started to have her stop and pull it in himself, but at the last second said "no its okay, you can do it." It was going great until she was about halfway in the garage. He kept saying "tap the brake, tap the brake, tap the brake..." which she was doing, but as she got closer to being all the way in, she wasn't stopping. Brian and I both kind of screamed "brake!" and she just panicked. Instead of stomping her foot on the brake, she stomped her foot on the gas pedal...and drove right into the wall. It for sure scared us all and she instantly burst into tears. GMa was at our house getting lunch ready for Jonah's party and she was sitting in the recliner right on the other side of the wall. When it happened, it was so loud that she threw her phone across the room and screamed, because it scared her so bad. It really was one of those moments where you just shake your head and think "what in the world is happening?!" Madi was devastated, and we did everything we could to make her feel better--it truly was just an accident, and we were not mad at her. The important thing was that no one was hurt...everything else can be fixed. I know our current life circumstances made this whole situation worse for her. Madi spent most of Jonah's birthday party in her bedroom, even though we didn't say a word to anyone about what happened. She was just very sad and embarrassed, and my heart hurt for her. At the same time, we were staring at busted sheetrock in the garage and in our living room wall. God is so faithful to surround us with friends and family who love us and want to help us. Especially friends like Jamie, who do drywall work for a living! On Monday, he came over and spent the afternoon patching up the walls for us, and it truly looks as if nothing ever even happened. What a blessing--our life feels pretty broken right now, and this was a way he could help fix something--it was a big deal and we are so thankful.
Jamie has a new nickname for Madi now--Crash!
Barely 24 hours later...
Good as new!
Can't even tell anything happened at all!
