I'm pretty sure this will go do in Baldwin Family History as the best Christmas surprise ever! The original plan was that we would wait until Christmas morning for the big reveal, but we wanted G-Ma to spend Christmas Eve with us & since she was the puppy-sitter, we decided to give him to the kids that night. I'm so glad we did it that way! I was feeling a little sad about not being in Tulsa at STBC for the Christmas Eve service, so this gave us a really fun distraction.
It was so, so SO much fun and their reactions were absolutely what I expected they would be! G-Ma came up around 5:00 and brought the puppy with her. I wrapped up some puppy supplies...dog food, a leash & collar, food and water bowls, puppy toys, a pooper scooper...and had the kids open those first. Madison's excitement as she figured out what was happening was so funny and sweet! I especially loved when she just fell over in the floor, because she just couldn't take the suspense and happiness! After they opened those presents, we told them we had just one more present and told them to close their eyes. I went out to the garage and put the puppy in this little Christmas box and carried him into the living room. When their eyes opened, I'm pretty sure it was love at first sight! I had my camera set to continually keep snapping pictures, and I absolutely love the expressions on their faces! While its true that I'm not a dog person, I do believe that every kid should get to have a puppy & I was happy that this dream was coming true for our kids! The kids knew that we were eventually planning to get a puppy, but they didn't have a clue they were getting one for Christmas!
The puppy name suggestions started right away...Madi really wanted to name him Cherry, until she found out he was a boy! LOL! We narrowed it down to Charlie, Pippin, or Henry and let our FB friends help us settle on a name.
Charlie was the winner! (Daddy was cheering for Pippin, which I found completely hilarious!)
So here we go...ready or not...let the adventures of owning a dog begin!
Honestly...those ears! This is going to be one loved little puppy!
Charlie is an 8 week old West Highland Terrier. He was born on Oct. 31st...a Halloween puppy! I'm pretty sure that means he will get to dress in costume for his birthday every year. =0)
Our first photo with our new family member!
I'd say they were excited!
This is probably my all-time favorite video of our kids EVER!
The next 12 pictures were taken in the time span of about 8 seconds! They are a little blurry, because there was much excitement and movement, but they capture the moment so well!
Checking out his new "bedroom!"
Annnndddd...it didn't take long for the reality of life with a puppy to set in! LOL!
