Jonah said he couldn't leave DC without getting a MAGA hat! =0) Bonus, he found some patriotic sunglasses too! We had the sweetest time with Jonah on his 6th grade Government trip. Jonah is our easy-going, quiet kid, and can sometimes fly under the radar. In this very busy season of life, it was a gift to have this one-on-one time with him! And he's growing up way too fast...
Our last day of the Government trip started out with a stop at the Iwo Jima Memorial, and then we were off to Arlington National Cemetery. One of the dads on the trip, Mr. Jacobson, is currently serving as a US Marine and he shared with the kids at Iwo Jima. It was very meaningful and one of my favorite moments of the trip. He talked to them about taking a stand for what is right, and standing up for each other even in the little things. When we got to Arlington, there were SO many people...I have never seen it like that. After watching the changing of the guard, we had one last teaching time and then a special time of prayer with our kids. Another one of the dads brought stars that were cut out of his Grandfather's American flag, and gave them to the kids so that they could give them to a Veteran. It was a special touch, and Jonah asked if he could bring his star home and give it to Grandpa Baldwin. Mrs. Low also gave each of the parents an American flag pin to give our child when we prayed with them. Jonah loves trading pins and I know this is something he will always keep and remember this trip by. After finishing up at Arlington, the group dispersed for the afternoon. A bunch of us headed off towards Ford's Theater, before we wrapped up the evening with our "fancy" dinner back at Mount Vernon.
We sure love you, Jonah! And we loved getting to be on this special trip with you this week!

One of the parents took a few pictures from across where most of us were standing. I love that you can see Jonah in these!
