Mackenzie had "Oklahoma Day" this week and it was a blast! It was a beautiful day and an added bonus was that G-Ma got to be there! It was very special that Mackenzie wore this gold colored dress that Grandma Jean made and G-Ma wore when she was about Mack's age...well, she wore it for the first half of the day, anyway! I think because the fabric is old and thin, it ripped very easily. It started out as not that big of a deal, but quickly became a problem. Mrs. Stitt was so sweet, and had her daughter bring over the dress that she wore, so they saved the day! I'm pretty sure Mackenzie was the only girl who got to wear two different dresses for Oklahoma Day! The kids got to do all kinds of fun activites, and then it was time for the Land Run and lunch. Mackenzie was in a family group with Kinley, Bogan and I think John Mark. Kinley was her "Mom," which they both thought was funny! They all staked their claims and they were so proud of the fact that they had a water pump on their property. The boys were protecting their land with their pretend guns. It was the cutest! At the end of the day, the kids did a little program for the parents. My favorite song they did was Oklahoma, of course...it nearly made me cry! Well, pretty much everything makes me cry these days! They also sang This Land is Your Land, Home on the Range, and I'll Fly Away. Each of the kids had a line that they learned and recited about Oklahoma history, and then they finished up with a square dance at the end. What a fun day! I really have tried to enjoy each of these "lasts" without being sad about them, but there's just always an underlying sadness that won't go away. I am very thankful though, for the fact that kids live in the moment & don't think so deeply about things like that. I found myself sad that Madison won't get to do Oklahoma Day, but then I had to remind myself that YES, she will...just not at Regent. I know there will be fun days like this for us at our new school too!
One things for sure...I love Oklahoma! Whether in Tulsa or OKC...OKLAHOMA is our home!
Days like today are a lot of fun, but also a lot of work! They wouldn't happen without the help of nearly every parent. I was on the lunch committee & got the fun job of washing all of the tin plates, cups & bandanas afterwards. Oh, and ironing the bandanas too! But, I really can't take credit for that. G-Ma came to the rescue, once again!

aaaandd...the dress ripping begins...
It ripped in several places before it was all said and done, so we were trying to improvise to make it work, but changing into a different dress was a much better solution!
I absolutely love this picture!! And yes, for whatever reason, Mackenzie is really into hanging out with the boys these days! They were playing some sort of game.
They were learning about making homemade ice cream and they just burst into song! Mrs. English said they have done that several times over the course of the year. They are just a very musical class, I guess! I didn't see who was the instigator, but I am guessing Mackenzie was in on that action! She was loving this!
