As if he weren't cute enough already, at 3 years & 8 months, Jonah got glasses!!! Wait, I mean...he got "Superhero" glasses! We told him that so he would want to wear them, and now he goes around telling everyone that's what they are. (And check out those adorable little teeth!) Jonah had his first eye exam a year ago and Dr. Groves told us then that he would probably need glasses within a year. Well, he was right...we took Jonah to see him in Feb. and he told us that Jonah is very far-sighted. He may always require glasses, or there's a chance that it could correct itself with time. I wore glasses from the time I was this little, so we weren't entirely shocked. My first thought was "HOW in the world are we going to keep these on his face?" But I have to say...I have been so surprised at how well he has done!
I think this has happened for 2 reasons:
1. Dr. Groves gave us dilation drops to use for the first few days if we needed them, so he would have to be wearing the glasses to see...well, Jonah hates eye drops so just the threat of having to use them has been enough for him to keep the glasses on.
2. He can see. So of course he doesn't mind wearing them. The prescription in these lenses is very strong. I had no idea that he was having such a hard time seeing up close.
I have found them on the floor of the van or laying in the floor in his bedroom on more than one occasion, but overall he has done very well! And thankfully, they are very durable and won't break easily...it's a good thing too, because they cost $239...eek! We did pay an extra $99 to get the antireflective coating so there won't be a glare when I take pictures. (It was worth the money!)
It has been fun to watch everyone respond and comment on how much they like his glasses! The first day he got them, he went around telling everyone at church, "I got my glasses at the EYE DOCTOR."
I have thought of several people Jonah reminds me of in these glasses...Chicken Little, Clark Kent, and the little boy from Jerry McGuire (the human head weights 8 lbs), just to name a few. But what it boils down to is this...
I've never seen a cuter little boy in glasses!
We found out he needed glasses at the end of February. We had him fitted, but didn't order them until the first of April because our insurance was changing and it would be better for us to wait.
He wasn't too sure about them at first!
Love that happy smile!
Just like his Daddy...can't keep his eyes open when the sun is bright!
His glasses have these rubber little hooks that go around his ears to hold them up. We also have a strap for the back, but so far the hooks are working great.
