We spent a few weeks this summer really working with Jonah to potty train, but here's the bottom line...he just isn't ready. He would cry and cry when we put big boy undies or a pull up on him, and sitting on the potty seat (even though it's a Mickey Mouse potty) is just terrifying! I bribed him with everything under the sun, just to get him to sit down on his potty seat. One night, we carried a bottle of Diet Coke into the bathroom and told him we would pour some in his cup if he would stay on his potty seat. That worked for about 5 seconds! We tried letting him play naked in the backyard, we tried putting his potty chair in front of the tv, we tried letting him watch shows on our phones, we tried telling him we'd buy him a new choo-choo if he'd use the potty, we sat outside of the bathroom and played games while he sat on the potty...nothing was working!
Finally, one day I asked him if he wanted some money...he loves playing with coins...I told him as soon as he pee pee'd in his potty, he could have some money. Well, I guess that motivated him enough to sit on the potty for nearly 45 minutes until some pee pee came out! So, he got a handful of coins...maybe he'll be a banker someday! I thought maybe we were making progress, but that was just a one-time occurrence. After a few more frustrating days, I emailed the director of the preschool program he is in to see if he had to be potty trained before school starts. When she replied that he didn't have to be potty trained to start school, I almost cried! Such relief... We are going to give it a couple more months and then try again. I don't want potty training to be an upsetting, traumatizing thing for him. I know that eventually, he will get it! For now, I'm just going to cherish these last few months of having a "baby." (cue crying)
Such supportive big sisters, playing a game outside of the bathroom with me, to kind of "trap" him in there!
Beware of buns!
This cracks me up! Madison was completely upset over Jonah jumping naked on the trampoline. She wanted nothing to do with it!
Ha,ha,ha,ha! It's good to be free!
Maybe he just needs privacy?!
We went to Wal-Mart and bought a potty seat for the big toilet, big boy undies and pull-ups. I thought maybe this would get him excited! Not so much... But now we have them!
