Appendicitis = No Cruise

Sometimes, things just don't go as planned...
Our vacation plans Friday definitely did not include an overnight ambulance ride to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston for an emergency appendectomy.
But...God is so merciful & faithful...He took care of Jonah every step of the way. His timing is perfect, even when it "messes up" our plans. We were sad to miss our cruise, of course, but mostly we were just so thankful that our boy was okay!
After our walk on the beach, Brian and I decided to run to urgent care with Jonah to have him checked out real quick before bed. We didn't want to get on a cruise ship without making sure there wasn't something really wrong. Jonah isn't a complainer, so we could tell he really did not feel well at all. We dropped the girls and Jack off at the hotel & went to urgent care, where they basically told us we should take him somewhere else because they didn't have the equipment to do the test he needed. So, off we went to another place. They ran some tests and did some imaging, and around 1:30 in the morning we got official word that Jonah's appendix had to come out. No cruise for us. It was a long night of waiting for an ambulance to take us to Houston Children's Hospital. When the ambulance finally came, I rode with Jonah on the hour long drive to Houston and Brian followed in our car. Once we got there, they put us in a room and we waited until around 10:00 for Jonah's surgery to happen. At the very same time we were supposed to be boarding the cruise ship, they were wheeling Jonah into surgery. Thankfully, it was quick and easy and they got him all fixed up! We spent most of the day there, and they discharged him that evening. The girls and Jack just hung out at the hotel and went swimming and ordered DoorDash. We were all sad that things turned out this way. But mostly, we were just relieved that we didn't get on a cruise ship and have an emergency appendicitis in the middle of the ocean. That could have been catastrophic, and I really can't even imagine having to be airlifted off a cruise ship in a helicopter in a situation like that. We can always cruise another time...thankfully, I bought travel insurance (first time I've ever done that) and we will be able to reschedule our cruise. And now we have this "exciting" story to tell! I know that Jonah was scared throughout this whole process, but he was so brave and we were very proud of him!
This picture popped up on my TimeHop from several years ago...the Lord definitely was watching over Jonah!
Waiting for test results and still hoping we would be going on our cruise the next morning...
But...nope...thumbs down...appendix has to come out.
Poor buddy!
Here we go! This was Jonah's first ambulance ride...and mine too!
So thankful he was still smiling and not in terrible pain at this point. Thankfully, his appendix didn't rupture and they were able to get it out before it really caused too much of a problem.
Bumpiest. Ride. Ever.
Getting checked in at the hospital...
"Breakfast" of champions...
I took this picture to show everyone...it was the coolest wall mural.
Just laying there, waiting for surgery...
The surgery didn't take more than about 30 minutes. We were so relieved when it was done!
Meanwhile, back at the hotel...
I mean--I go back and forth on my feelings about their attitudes here--lol!
This is what I did while Jonah was in surgery and recovering. Love him so!
There's that smile I love so much!
Breaking out of there later that day!
