My Monday morning FB Post:
"We are on the road to getting our girl home! Hopefully as early as tomorrow morning! Madison had a rough night, but once the sun came up, things started to get better fast! The Dr cleared her to eat today, but to take it slow and easy...she had just a few bites of this pancake and some vanilla ice cream for breakfast, and some Mac-n-cheese for lunch. She is almost cord-free and is transitioning to oral medications to help manage her pain.
Taking oral medicine is hard for her at this point...we cheered her on from FaceTime, while Daddy played "Eye of the Tiger" and G-Ma bribed her with a trip to the gift shop, and she eventually got that medicine down! Pretty sure those nurses aren't going to forget Brian anytime soon! =0)
As long as everything continues to go smoothly today and through the night, she will get to come home tomorrow! Please continue to pray for complete healing with no complications! We know that God has been with us every step of the way, and we are so thankful.
This is a real smile right here...and hopefully my next post will be of her at home!! Thank you, prayer warriors! We love you all!!"
Sunday night was really hard...Madison had an older nurse who literally came in every single hour of the night for one thing or another, and she just wasn't the greatest. I actually FaceTime'd through the night, on this night, because Madi was sad and having a hard time and I didn't want to "leave" her. I also think she was just so hungry at this point, that it was hard for her to sleep. At one point in the night, the nurse was telling us about how she was pretty certain she had the coronavirus and had been off work for a month...I mean, really??!!...Madison looked over at the screen where she knew I could see her and her eyeballs were as big around as tennis balls! No nurse should tell something like that to a child in the hospital that they are caring for. She also startled Madison and Brian one time when she came rushing into the room, because she had almost let Madison's epidural drip run out. Anyway, she was a sweet lady but we were very glad that Sunday night was the only night she was our nurse. She did redeem herself a little by giving Madison a "Perfect Patient" certificate for a free cookie or cake pop at the hospital!
The doctor came in early Monday morning and asked Madison if she was ready for some food! That got a big smile and a definite yes for an answer. I thought they would start her out with jello and popsicles or something like that, but they gave her free reign to order anything she wanted off of the breakfast menu! She had been looking at the menu the day before and pretty much had it memorized. She had pancakes, but to hold her over until they came, Daddy went and found her some vanilla ice cream in the freezer across the hall from their room. Pancakes & ice cream sounds like a pretty good first meal to me! She took it easy and didn't eat too much, and she didn't have any trouble keeping her food down, so that was a great sign! She ordered Mac-n-cheese and a sugar cookie for lunch, and then Alfredo pasta, green beans and strawberry shortcake for dinner. =0) I'd say she was a happy camper, getting to eat again! Oh, another big surprise when the doctor came in was that she said Madison could go home possibly as soon as that evening (what?!) or early the next morning, as long as she handled her food well during the day! She also got her epidural taken out and had to start taking liquid medication to manage the pain in her stomach.
Madison & Daddy participated in a Star Wars trivia game and won a Star Wars Build-a-Bear, which Madison loved of course! I told her maybe we could take some toys to donate at Christmastime, for kids who have to be in the hospital like she has been. They also went exploring around the hospital some, since she was pretty much cord-free! Of course she managed to convince him to take her to the gift shop, where she got the sweetest blue llama that she named Chelsea, after another of her nurses. Her spirits were much better on this day, because she was getting to eat and she knew she was getting to come the next day!

Madi said this vanilla ice cream tasted like heaven! I'm sure it did, after 4 1/2 days of no food!
Madison kept trying to convince us that she NEEDED this $350 giraffe from the gift shop...hahaha...I don't think so! But, I posted something about her wanting a life-size giraffe on FB and Bunny saw it and surprised her by sending her one similar to this (from Amazon) after she was home from the hospital! So sweet!
They ended up playing Star Wars trivia instead of Bingo, which was probably a good thing, considering how the first Bingo game had gone a few days before!
